Inspired by the traditional Ukrainian motanka doll — a folk figure associated with protection, family, and continuity — this brooch reimagines the form in bead embroidery. A wreath of red and green sequin flowers and beaded spikes crowns a woven red-and-black plaid “face,” left faceless in keeping with motanka tradition, with brown thread hair falling to each side.
The piece is finished with a beaded collar and a fringe of cascading rhinestone chain in red, black, and green, backed in soft suede. Deep burgundy and black tones are set against gold and warm neutral accents, giving it a look that is both traditional in reference and distinctly contemporary in execution.
